Shred Event Held At Our Office.

Hines Securities
SHRED SOLVER
At first we weren't sure if an event centered around shredding old documents would be of interest to our clients, but it turned out to be a big hit! We hired Shred Solvers to bring a 3 ton shred truck, provided a wine tasting courtesy of Brett Wiese of Tri-Vin Imports, and offered a spread of gourmet cheeses for our guests. As an added educational bonus, Brett Williams from Hines Global REIT spoke briefly about real estate investing and Kris, one of our partners here at Highpoint Advisors, offered a few quick tips to reading account statements. We had a good time and were asked to do it again, so look for another one in the future....

Highpoint Advisors does Social Security Workshop

USAHighpoint Advisors put on another workshop for our clients and also opened it up to the public due to how important the Social Security system is to proper financial planning. The event was May 15th at 5:30pm at the Genesee Grande Hotel and we had a good turnout of both our clients as well as some new faces from the community (thanks to multiple mentions on YNN). The workshop focused mainly on the retirement portion of the Social Security system - outlining some of the many ways that individuals can collect benefits. The SSI system is very complicated and many individuals do not know their options, so one of our strategic partners, Pete Buckley, spent about an hour explaining to the group just how the system can benefit retirees. If you missed the event and would like more information, please give us a call!...

April is National Financial Literacy Month

Financial Literacy MonthApril is National Financial Literacy Month, and we at Highpoint Advisors want to share a few pieces of information that may not be right in front of our faces in our day to day lives. This month is "a great time to remind consumers of the importance of taking charge of their personal financial well-being. Among the important aspects, American consumers should know is what to do if contacted by a debt collector about a delinquent or defaulted account. While no one really wants to get a call or letter telling them they owe money, consumers need to know they are not alone," ACA International CEO Pat Morris said. “Each year, for many very legitimate and often unavoidable reasons, millions of consumers fall behind on payments and are contacted by a debt collector.” This article can be found at http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/a-reminder-for-consumers---april-is-national-financial-literacy-month-201042351.htmlAdditionally, "as Financial Literacy month kicks off, most people are thinking about taxes or are concerned about recent investments. One couple believes you should bring your financial thinking closer to home. All to often as adults we focus on how we will make it to retirement or pay for our kids’ college. It’s time that we started focusing on educating our children so they don’t make the same financial mistakes we did,” says Bret Shroyer. “The truth is this: schools aren't going to teach your kids how to manage money. The best you can hope for is that your kids will learn in school how to identify and count money, and make correct change. This will minimally qualify them for a job at McDonalds someday.” This article can be found at http://www.prweb.com/releases/2013/4/prweb10588083.htmWe hope these short articles are helpful, and if any questions come up then please call our office for more discussion....
